Riders can now order a free button online that says, "Baby on Board" and "Please offer me seat."The goal is to raise awareness for pregnant women and people with disabilities. (WSPA) — New York City's transit agency is proving that chivalry isn't dead. Officials also hope the campaign helps with encouraging more riders to offer seats to those who need them. The campaign was made famous when Duchess Kate Middleton wore a button while she was pregnant. The program is inspired by a similar campaign launched in London back in 2015.

'Baby on Board' pins for pregnant New York City subway riders
May 15 (UPI) -- New York City subway officials this week unveiled "Baby on Board" pins to encourage subway riders to relinquish seats to pregnant commuters. Wearing the free yellow-and-blue button could motivate subway riders, whose attentions are often fixed on cellphones, to demonstrate some courtesy, the MTA said. Elderly and disabled riders are offered a similar button that reads, "Please offer me a seat." "Pregnant riders, seniors and those with disabilities often need seats more than others but their condition may not always be visible," MTA Interim Executive Director Ronnie Hakim said. "We hope this campaign will help their fellow riders to be more willing to offer them a seat without having to ask a personal question first."
