May 15 (UPI) -- New York City subway officials this week unveiled "Baby on Board" pins to encourage subway riders to relinquish seats to pregnant commuters. Wearing the free yellow-and-blue button could motivate subway riders, whose attentions are often fixed on cellphones, to demonstrate some courtesy, the MTA said. Elderly and disabled riders are offered a similar button that reads, "Please offer me a seat." "Pregnant riders, seniors and those with disabilities often need seats more than others but their condition may not always be visible," MTA Interim Executive Director Ronnie Hakim said. "We hope this campaign will help their fellow riders to be more willing to offer them a seat without having to ask a personal question first."
