This reduction in crime contributes to the 1,611 fewer overall index crimes year-to-date in New York City, compared with 2016, making the year-to-date reduction -5.2%. For the month of April 2017, there were 7,377 overall index crimes reported, compared with 7,917 in April 2016. New York City experienced 540 fewer index crimes, or -6.8%, in April 2017, compared with April 2016. There were 394 crimes reported in the Housing Bureau in April 2017, compared with 399 in April 2016. "The continued reduction of crime in New York City is the result of the great work being done by the men and women of the NYPD," said Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill.

Those with 332 numbers will continue to use their phones normally, and calling a 332 number will be no different than with other area code. Starting June 10, the area code 332 will debut in Manhattan, according to telecommunications giant Verizon. Anybody getting a new phone number after that date could be assigned a 332 number. A new area code does not signal a change in your phone plan either, according to Verizon. One thing to keep in mind should you be given a 332 area code: update your business cards, websites, identification cards, advertisements and other places where your personal contact information may be included.
